In response to efforts by Key West and other localities in Florida to ban the sale of sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate, legislation was recently enacted that supports access to FDA-approved sunscreens. Specifically, the law, effective July, 1, 2020, preempts the regulation of over-the-counter propriety drugs or cosmetics to the state.
ASDSA, the Florida Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery and others advocated for the passage of this legislation.
